Rachel Frick (Project Director: May 2005 to January 2007)

A preservation consultant's assessment of preservation activities, disaster response procedures, staff training, and preservation equipment for the care of humanities collections in Boatwright Library of the University of Richmond.

A Preservation Assistance Grant will allow Boatwright Memorial Library, University of Richmond to conduct a critical assessment of preservation needs for its humanities collections. Patricia Selinger, a consultant with expertise in library materials preservation, will be hired to assess current preservation activities, review the library’s disaster response procedures, and make recommendations for future staff training, equipment needs, building environmental systems, and priorities for implementing recommendations. In summer 2006, the library will renovate the two floors housing most of the humanities collections, and will incorporate the consultant’s preservation recommendations into this renovation plan and longer term strategies.
