FAIN: PA-51643-06

State Historical Society of Iowa (Des Moines, IA 50319-1006)
Sheila K. Hanke (Project Director: May 2005 to January 2007)

Purchasing storage furniture to rehouse the society's collection of battle flags. The flags belonged to Iowa volunteer regiments that fought in the Spanish-American War.

The State Historical Society of Iowa requests a Preservation Assistance Grant of $5000 toward obtaining a specialty cabinet to house the Spanish-American flags within Iowa’s battle flag collection. The State Historical Society of Iowa is engaged in a multi-year project to stabilize and treat a collection of battle flags carried and captured by Iowa volunteer regiments. The requested cabinet is the 9th cabinet of the 12 required to complete this project. The cabinets are designed to the specifications of Fonda Thomsen of Textile Preservation Associates of Keedysville, MD. Delta Designs LTD of Topeka, Kansas, builds the cabinets to exact conservation specifications and the highest museum standards.
