Nevada County Depot and Museum (Prescott, AR 71857-2067)
Peggy Sue Lloyd (Project Director: May 2005 to January 2008)

The implementation of light control measures and the purchase of storage shelving to preserve a 10,000-item artifact and archival collection that documents the history of Nevada County, Arkansas, from its settlement, through the Civil War and the coming of the railroad, and into the 20th century.

The purpose of this project is to address some of the chief preservation concerns of the collections conservator, Jodie Utter of East West Paper Conservation in Memphis, TN, as expressed in a 2004 IMLS/CAP report. Ms. Utter found the reduction of light levels in the exhibit rooms as well as in the archive and storage spaces an area for immediate attention. She also focused on improving storage and methods of storage as another area for immediate attention. Our goal is to install shades on the windows and UV film on fluorescent bulbs in the exhibit areas and acquire shelving and other storage materials in order to preserve the artifacts in our care and to make them more readily accessible.
