Hiring a conservation specialist to conduct an assessment of the museum's textile collection. The consultant would also conduct a workshop for the museum's volunteers and staff on the handling, care, and storage of textiles. The consultant's report would provide recommendations for appropriate shelving as well as the design of the storage area.

We are applying to NEH to fund the services of textile conservation specialist, A. Newbold Richardson, for preliminary activities supporting the museum’s textile re-housing project. Her consultant services in this project for us will include: A textile handling, care, and storage workshop for our staff and volunteers, A storage and handling survey of the 1,800 textiles involved in the re-housing,Direction in the choice of new textile storage units, and The layout design for the new textile storage area and object maintenance workspace. Support from this grant will also fund the purchase of a new archival vacuum for the maintenance of the textile objects. This is the first stage of the larger textile re-housing project.
