Preservation Assessment of Library Special Collections

FAIN: PA-51661-06

Mint Museum of Art (Charlotte, NC 28207-2012)
Joyce Weaver (Project Director: May 2005 to March 2009)

A preservation needs assessment of the library's special collections of rare books that support the Mint Museum's holdings of art, which include ceramics, pre-Columbian art, and graphic arts; and preservation training for the librarian.

The Library of The Mint Museums will contract with conservator Carol Paulson Crawford to conduct a preservation assessment of the library’s special collections, totaling approximately 2,500 items. The assessment will identify the preservation needs of the collections, recommend the actions needed for the conservation of materials and provide a long-range plan for their preservation and accessible storage and the necessary allocation of resources. Ms. Crawford will conduct in-house training for the Librarian in conservation treatments and preservation activities. Also, the Librarian will attend SOLINET preservation workshops for training in preservation of library materials to increase staff knowledge of collection preservation requirements.
