North Star Museum Collections Conservation Assessment

FAIN: PA-51662-06

North Star Museum of Boy Scouting and Girl Scouting (West St. Paul, MN 55118-0341)
Claudia Jean Nicholson (Project Director: May 2005 to November 2007)

A preservation assessment of a 150,000-item collection comprising artifacts, textiles, books and magazines, archival records, photographs, films and audiotapes that document the history of the Boy Scouts and the Girl Scouts from 1910 to the present.

The Museum will hire a conservator to assess collection, its state of preservation and storage. She will report to the Museum her findings, along with recommendations for storage priorities, rehousing priorities, and treatments, if they are necessary. The remainder of the grant money will be used for two purposes: buying data loggers, a light meter, and an aspirated psychrometer in order to more closely monitor the environment in our new building (purchased 4/05, occupied 9/05); provide a one-day collections care workshop for up to 20 staff and volunteers of this museum and other neighboring ones.
