Audiovisual Collections Preservation Assessment and Training

A preservation assessment of 1,100 items in the museum's moving image collection created during the past 60 years and documenting the Civil Rights era in the United States.

The National Civil Rights Museum will contract with Amigos Library Services to conduct a preservation assessment of the museum’s audio-visual collections, specifically our collection of moving images. The assessment will produce recommendations for the following: § Short-term actions to improve storage conditions including physical plant recommendations and management of limited storage space. § Equipment and software recommendations for optimal documentation and preservation of audio-visual collections § Long-term plan for refreshment of media types, long-term storage recommendations Three members of the museum’s collections management staff will attend two training sessions between January 2006 and June 2007.
