FAIN: PA-51703-06

East Baton Rouge Parish Library (Baton Rouge, LA 70806-7625)
Anita York (Project Director: May 2005 to July 2006)

A preservation assessment of archives, manuscripts, photographs, maps, and oral history collections related to the history of Baton Rouge and the surrounding area from the 18th through the 20th century.

The East Baton Rouge Parish Library is in the earliest phase of discussion regarding the design and construction of a new Main Library, which will house the Baton Rouge Room's local archival history collection. A general preservation assessment of the collection's current condition and future needs is crucial. The Library proposes to hire a qualified archivist to assess our present storage and environmental conditions, space requirements, preservation materials used, security, and public access policies. The archivist's findings and recommendations will serve to guide the plans for a new facility, in accordance with the collection's current and future needs.
