University of Delaware Delegation to Visit Cultural Heritage Institutions in Cuba

This grant will support a delegation to Cuba of art conservation students and professors in the Department of Art Conservation at the University of Delaware.  We are planning for a four to five-day trip with a focus on photograph collections and preventive conservation of all types of collections, including fine art & natural resources.  This diverse approach will offer students and recent graduates the opportunity to learn about Cuban cultural heritage and observe conservation treatment and practices in that country.  The itinerary of the trip will be developed in consultation with our Cuban counterparts, but will likely include museums, libraries, and archives, including the National Museum of Fine Art, National Library, and National Archives.  We anticipate that this visit will be inspiring to the students on the trip and will foster a long-term relationship between the University of Delaware and our Cuban colleagues in conservation and preservation.
