Preservation of Humanities Collection at Radio Vieques

Travel, expenses, and consulting fees for a visit by a consultant to address damage to the collections caused by the hurricanes and to mitigate future damage.

The Incubadora Microempresa Bieke, Inc. is the fiscal agent for the Vieques Community Radio Station WVQR, a not-for-profit public radio station that has been serving the community since September 2013.  It offers a voice to the underserved sectors of its community through programs that provide music, news, and the exchange of ideas, aimed at improving the quality of cultural, spiritual, and economic life in the communities of this Eastern region.  The station has an archive that makes valuable historical and radio contents available to the public.  As a result of its experiences with hurricanes Irma and Maria, and foreseeing the danger represented by future tropical storms and hurricanes, the Vieques Community Radio station proposes to hire preservation consultant Jim Lindner to assess the archive’s contents and lead local staff and volunteers in the creation of a Strategic Preservation Plan to effectively prevent and mitigate threats to the collection.
