The town of Rockport-Fulton was in the center of the path of Hurricane Harvey, which hit the Texas Gulf Coast on August 25, 2017. As a result of this devastating storm, the Fulton Mansion, which is part of the Fulton Mansion State Historic Site, suffered significant damage. The mansard roof and chimney were completely destroyed. The interior collections, floors, wool reproduction rugs, and window treatments received major water damage. The overall damage to the Fulton Mansion is estimated at $1 million. This includes an estimated $150,000 in damage to the house museum collections, exhibits, and textiles. The Friends of the Texas Historical Commission requests an NEH Chairman’s Emergency grant of $30,000 for the restoration of books and portraits, restoration and cleaning of carpets, and for museum-standard rehousing supplies for the collections.
