The
hiring of expert consultants; the purchase of protective gear such as gloves
and masks, cleaning supplies, and art supplies; and conservation and
restoration services to develop a plan and restore artworks damaged during Hurricane Maria held by Caribbean University College's Museum of ART (MACU).
The aftermath of Hurricane Maria is unprecedented. In the complex process of recovery, aspects that are not life threatening such as art, maybe left behind. The Chairman’s Emergency Grant will make a significant difference. It will enable the Caribbean University Museum to recover, restore and preserve its works of art, so that once society recovers, it can still enjoy its art and continue to develop its culture. The three consultants will be hired to complete evaluation of damages and to develop restoration process: Rigoberto Lucca: Recognized stained glass and mosaic artist with more than 20 years of experience. Carlos Guzman: One of the most active and internationally recognized Puerto Rican Sculptor. He offers professional services in conservation of the public arts and outdoor sculptures. Joel Martinez: A leading Puerto Rican urban artist with solid academic background with a MA and offers his services in conservation of Puerto Rican urban arts.
