the purchase of dehumidifiers and air filters to restore appropriate environmental conditions and the costs of preservation supplies and student help to rehouse and rebind the reference collection of the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico that was damaged during Hurricane Maria.
As a result of the severe damage caused by mold and humidity (due to lack of ventilation suffered during the absence of electrical power in our island as a consequence of Hurricane Maria), it is necessary to have equipment for stabilizing the environmental conditions of the library. With the acquisition of dehumidifiers of 100 pints and air scrubbers, we can reestablish a proper environment for our collection. Because of the damage caused by mold, many of our printed resources will need rebinding and new folders. It is fundamental to acquire binding materials like music binders, storage cartons for records and oversize music, pamphlet binders, tape and other necessary labeling materials since the rebound materials will need to be labeled. The emergency grant allow us to acquire new binding materials and to hire two students for the tasks of labeling and rebinding to support the only technician that we have available to carry out this work.
