Olive Lane Horning (Project Director: February 2018 to March 2021)
The hiring of consultants to
advise on the restoration and repair of items damaged during Hurricane Irma in 2017, as well as the purchase of a
dehumidifier, environmental monitoring equipment, and preservation and cleaning
supplies. The collections document the work of the Women's Club of St. Cloud, founded in 1910 as
part of an effort to establish a Veterans’ Colony for Civil War Union veterans
and their families.
The project will consist of purchasing the archival storage pieces and transferring the paper products from current storage into the new archival page protectors and storage boxes. Approximately 80,000 pieces of paper will need to be handled and transferred. A number of pieces will have to be retyped and printed on archival paper because they are too damaged to use as is. The cleaning supplies will be used on artifacts that had water damage. The 70 pint dehumidifier and moisture meters will be installed as soon as possible so as to keep the museum environment at an optimal level. The ten members of the museum committee will assist with the transfer of materials.
