Decontamination work on costumes and furniture, as well as restoration of a rare high-back Victorian couch, used by the university's O’Kane Theater for productions that advance understanding of and
appreciation for the dramatic arts; the items were damaged as a result of Hurricane Harvey in 2017.
With the support from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the University of Houston - Downtown (UHD) will restore rare furniture and historical items damaged by Hurricane Harvey in August 2017. Restoration will include the professional decontamination of costumes such as shoes, hats, dresses, gowns, and suits dating back to the 1930s. UHD will restore a rare, high-back Victorian sofa. These items are significant to the study of historical clothing history and manufacturing and will be used to teach conservation and preservation techniques in accordance with museum standards.
