National United States Military History Museum - Repairs to Roof Damage from Hurricane Harvey

FAIN: PB-263394-18

National United States Armed Forces Museum (Houston, TX 77029-1313)
Ed Farris (Project Director: April 2018 to September 2019)

A portion of the museum’s costs in rebuilding a more stable, long-lasting roof to safeguard its collections in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey in 2017.

The museum incurred significant damage to the rood of the facility during Hurricane Harvey.  We have patched as much of the rood as possible, but this is a short-term fix; a band-aid will not permanently repair the roof.  Current estimates to re-roof the facility with materials only is $30,000 based on a roof that is 20,000 square feet.  The total cost to replace the roof is estimates to be approximately $105,996 with additional funds being sought through private donations as well as state and federal grants.  In order to protect the collection from damage, the roof needs to be replaced and funds received from the National Endowment for the Humanities will begin these necessary repairs.
