USS Constitution Museum, Inc. (Boston, MA 02129-0215)
Robert Kiihne (Project Director: November 2018 to June 2021)

The purchase of a stand-alone Mini Climate Machine, to control microclimates within 12 exhibit cases.

The USS Constitution Museum (USSCM), a complement to the oldest commissioned warship afloat in the world, requested a $30,000 Chairman’s Grant to create humidity-controlled exhibit cases.  The museum stewards more than 10,000 historical items, including 3,000 artifacts, 5,000 photographs, and 30 linear feet of manuscript material.  This collection documents the ship’s history, including its role in the War of 1812, and is central to the museum’s K-12 educational programs and to training the Navy sailors who provide tours of the vessel.  USSCM attracts an audience of 400,000 every year.
