The retention of three staff members, who would process and rehouse 25,000 photos in the collection of Kenneth T. Mars, an African American Narragansett Indian.

The Pettaquamscutt Historical Society, operating as the South County History Center, respectfully requests a NEH CARES grant to support the preservation the Kenneth T. Mars, Jr. Photograph Collection. The collection includes more than 25,000 photographs taken by Mars, an African-American member of the Narragansett Indian Tribe, likely making it the largest collection of vernacular photographs by a person of color in the United States.
