Cultural Charrette for Mississippi Gulf Coast HURRICANE KATRINA EMERGENCY GRANT

FAIN: PC-50202-06

Mississippi Library Commission (Jackson, MS 39209)
Sharman Bridges Bridges (Project Director: August 2006 to July 2009)

Recognizing that full recovery from the devastation of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita will require long-term collaborative effort on the part of many cultural institutions, the Mississippi Library Commission is leading a consortium of cultural agencies in organizing a two-day conference to formulate a plan for restoring Mississippi's cultural heritage. This meeting, to be held on the Gulf Coast, will bring together national cultural leaders and representatives of local museums, libraries, archives, and other cultural heritage organizations. Their goal is to create a dialogue among local cultural entities and to articulate a vision for rebuilding stronger, more cohesive cultural communities. The anticipated outcomes include more cohesive planning, a renewed sense of hope and energy, and a clearer direction for state cultural agencies.
