The Louisiana Museum of Indian Culture in Bogalusa, Louisiana, holds approximately 4,000 American Indian artifacts representing Woodland Indians and local Choctaw groups. The collection includes stone tools, cooking utensils, ceremonial artifacts and costumes, household items, such as a baby's cradleboard, and hunting equipment. The museum is located about 25 miles north of Lake Pontchartrain. During Hurricane Katrina, the museum's roof was damaged and water entered collection storage and exhibition spaces. The collections have been protected, but the cases and cabinets holding them are beyond repair. The city of Bogalusa has provided the funds to repair the museum's roof. To safely house the collections, new cabinets are needed.
