A general preservation assessment of the Special Collections Department of the University of Texas at El Paso Library’s archival collections, which focus on the U.S.-Mexico border region and the history of El Paso, Texas.

The Special Collections Department of the University of Texas at El Paso Library requests funds from the National Endowment for the Humanities to engage a consultant to make a preservation assessment of the collections and the spaces where they are housed. The report that the consultant will prepare will allow the department to create a preservation plan to extend the usable life of the materials.

The report details the environmental conditions that he found and commented on positive aspects and shortcomings that he found. He also reviewed planning documents in place in the department and recommended additional plans and policies.
