Arizona Historical Foundation Preservation Assessment

FAIN: PG-50017-07

Arizona Historical Foundation (Tempe, AZ 85287-1006)
Linda Whitaker (Project Director: May 2006 to June 2007)

A preservation assessment of 300 manuscript collections, 12,000 photographs, 8,000 books, audio and video collections, microfilms, and other materials related to Senator Barry Goldwater, and politics, the law, and the business, social, and cultural history of Arizona.

The Arizona Historical Foundation (AHF) will engage a consultant to conduct a preservation assessment of its holdings with the goal of identifying long-term solutions for fragile items in newsprint, cloth, leather, and film formats. AHF holdings include the nationally significant Barry M. Goldwater political papers and photograph collections, in addition to over 300 manuscript collections, ephemera, oral histories, artifacts, and films that document the history of Arizona and the Southwest. The assessment will provide a long-term plan for preservation, identify materials most in need of treatment, and assist in developing a preservation policy and a better understanding of best practices related to prevention and preservation.
