Billerica Public Library (Billerica, MA 01821)
Kathleen Meagher (Project Director: May 2006 to May 2008)

The purchase of storage supplies and environmental monitoring equipment for archival records, books, pamphlets, microfilm, audiotapes, and newspapers that document the town's history, including the development of its early mills and canals.

A previous NEH Preservation Assistance Grant made it possible for the Billerica Public Library to complete a preservation survey assessment of our Local History Room. It was done by Millie O'Connell, a preservation consultant from the Northeast Document Conservation Center in Andover, MA. The Preservation Survey Report that resulted provided us with suggestions and guidance on how better to secure, organize, and preserve our collection. It also advised us on the actions and /or materials needed to carry out these suggestions. We have begun taking the advised actions and it is our intention and desire to continue with the suggested purchases of appropriate and secure storage furniture and supplies.
