FAIN: PG-50079-07

Franklin County Historical and Museum Society (Malone, NY 12953-1916)
Anne Werley Smallman (Project Director: May 2006 to December 2008)

Preservation assessment of archival records, daybooks, ledgers, scrapbooks, registers, maps, and other materials related to the cultural, political, agricultural, and business history of Franklin County, New York, from the 1820s to the 1970s.

The Franklin County Historical and Museum Society holds a sizeable collection of historical documents and other paper-based collections. In order to bettter preserve these materials, the society would engage a consultant to conduct a general preservation survey of these paper-based collections and make recommendations on how the society can better preserve, store, and provide safe access to the materials. The consultant will make a one-day site visit to survey the collection and assess the risks to the materials and review their general condition. She will then prepare a written report outlining the findings for the survey and provide recommendations on how to better care for the materials. This report will be used to help the society implement improved preservation policies and practices.
