FAIN: PG-50088-07

City of Ontario (Ontario, CA 91762-3812)
Theresa E. Hanley (Project Director: May 2006 to September 2008)

The purchase of cabinets for the storage of material culture collections that document industries important to the development of Ontario, California, including citrus growing, viticulture, mining, assaying, and ranching.

With this Preservation Assistance Grant, the Museum of History and Art, Ontario, will purchase three professional museum storage cabinets for the rehousing of small and medium-sized historical artifacts in the collections of the small, but professionally operated local/regional museum, which collects art and artifacts related to Ontario and the surrounding communities in inland Southern California. The project will improve preservation and access to these collections as a result of more efficient and professional storage. This project is the result of recommendations in a general conservation/preservation assessment conducted in 2005 by conservator, Beverly Perkins. Perkins' assessment and recommendations constitute a basic institutional plan for renewed concentration on collections care, preservation, and access.
