Preservation Assessment of Special Collections of Reeves Library

FAIN: PG-50102-07

Moravian College (Bethlehem, PA 18018-6614)
Jan Ballard (Project Director: May 2006 to October 2008)

A preservation assessment survey of archival and special collections that document the history of the Moravian church in America, its early educational efforts, and the settlement of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. The collections include materials in multiple formats, dating from the early 1700s to the present.

The grant will support a preservation assessment survey of the Reeves Library Special Collections, which includes the Rare Books collection, the Moravian College Archives and the Groenfeldt Moravian Collection. The survey will facilitate the development of a long-range preservation plan, which will: (1) include an effective action strategy for dealing with preservation issues; (2) maintain consistency and continuity in the library's preservation program over the long term; and (3) assist in securing the necessary resources to implement the recommendations of the survey.
