Victoria Kathleen Swinney (Project Director: May 2006 to October 2007)

A preservation assessment of the library's archives and special collections and the purchase of preservation supplies. The collections include records related to the history of the Methodist Church in Oklahoma and materials that document state politics and Oklahoma City history.

The Oklahoma City University Dulaney-Browne Library staff plans to use the proposed Preservation Assistance Grant to contract with Amigos Library Services conservator Rebecca Elder to conduct a preservation analysis of the library's archival and special collections. The analysis will focus on recommendations for long-term preservation of the collection including: 1) appropriate preservation storage containers; 2) prioritizing materials for improved environmental conditions; and 3) planning for upgrading the HVAC system for some or all of the rooms currently used for archival and special collection space. The proposed grant will also be used to purchase materials already identified by the conservator as needed for preservation of the collection.
