Thomas Stephen Neel (Project Director: May 2006 to October 2008)

The purchase of archival supplies to re-house manuscripts, newspapers, photographs, court records, church records, ledgers, and ephemera on Ohio family history.

Our project is to acquire archival folders and boxes to complete the transfer of our library manuscript collection to acid-free materials by December 31, 2007. The manuscript holdings of the Ohio Genealogical Society's library total 1,726 feet. Approximately 225 feet of archival material remains to be boxed, which is the focus of this project. Student interns currently scheduled for the 2007 year from Ohio State University's work-study program and our own library volunteers would be utilized to complete the project. As the Ohio Genealogical Society approaches our 50th anniversary, we are taking the part of our mission that deals with preservation seriously. To be taken with any seriousness in our day-to-day fundraising efforts, we need to get our extensive archives in shape for the user. It is vital that the extensive records of Ohio's pioneer families be properly stored and organized.
