FAIN: PG-50203-07

Children's Center, Inc. (Los Angeles, CA 90011-1630)
David Crippens (Project Director: May 2006 to November 2008)

A general preservation assessment of correspondence, photographs, and other records related to the history of the Second Baptist Church of Los Angeles, the Civil Rights Movement, Black primary education, and the development of the African American community in Los Angeles from the 1880s to the present.

The Children's Center, Inc., a nonprofit organization, and its partner, Second Baptist Church of Los Angeles, will contract with archivist Claude B. Zachary of the Archival Research Center of the University of Southern California, to conduct a preservation assessment of their written, printed, and photographic archives collections. The archivist will review the current overall state of the archives; determine how many linear feet of written, printed, photographic and three-dimensional archives should be considered permanent records; consult with a historic preservation/renovation architect about the remodeling of the archives storage area; and make written recommendations for the long-term storage, access, preservation, and management of the collection.
