Pewabic Pottery (Detroit, MI 48214-3138)
Hanne Neilson (Project Director: May 2006 to October 2008)

A conservation assessment and the purchase of preservation supplies to rehouse photographs, drawings, blueprints, correspondence, and business records related to the work of artist and ceramics potter, Mary Stratton (1903 to 1961).

The project will rehouse paper materials currently stored in map cases or flat files. Archival records will be relocated to more appropriate folders, interleaved when appropriate, and returned to the same archival storage furniture. The overall goal of this project is to improve the Pottery Archives' ability to preserve and care for its historical documents for visiting scholars and future generations and to render them safe for handling so proper accessioning can begin. Most of the documents maintained in the Pottery Archives are the only copies in existence. In fact, some of the news clippings from 1903-09 are the only existing record of the pottery from that time.
