Preservation Needs Assessment of Special Collections and Archives

FAIN: PG-50270-08

Loyola University, New Orleans (New Orleans, LA 70118-6143)
Patricia Nugent (Project Director: May 2007 to September 2009)

A preservation assessment and purchase of supplies for the university's Monroe Library collections including materials relating to literature and the arts, public affairs, and political movements. The holdings comprise 15,000 books and 1,835 feet of manuscript and archival material dating from 1831 to the present.

The J. Edgar and Louise S. Monroe Library at Loyola University New Orleans seeks funding to engage Ms. Kara McClurken, a Preservation Services Librarian from the Southeastern Library Network (SOLINET), to make an onsite preservation needs assessment of its Special Collections and Archives holdings. The assessment will consider the collections, housing, security, storage environment and preservation strategies of Special Collections and Archives. Following her onsite visit, Ms. McClurken will issue a report and a draft preservation plan making recommendations relating to the conditions, policies and practices of the Monroe Library.
