Creating Cold Storage for Negative Collections

FAIN: PG-50282-08

Gibbes Art Gallery (Charleston, SC 29401)
Sara Courtenay Arnold (Project Director: May 2007 to July 2008)

The purchase of storage supplies to preserve a collection of more than 1,000 cellulose nitrate photographic negatives that feature images of Charleston's architecture and landscapes of coastal South Carolina created between 1910 and 1945.

The Gibbes Museum of Art/Carolina Art Association requests grant assistance to purchase a freezer and cold storage supplies to stabilize and preserve its collection of over 1000 photographic film negatives containing significant images of Charleston's architecture and South Carolina's lowcountry landscapes dating between circa 1910 and 1945. These purchases will allow the Museum to provide appropriate storage conditions for the preservation of its valuable archival photograph collections.
