Topical Collections Preservation Project

FAIN: PG-50288-08

Oregon Historical Society (Portland, OR 97205-2441)
MaryAnn T. Campbell (Project Director: May 2007 to July 2009)

Purchase of preservation supplies to rehouse 150 linear feet of archival collections, including business records, military records, ethnographic materials, correspondence, diaries, scrapbooks, playbills, posters, and advertising materials dating from mid 1800s to the present, reflecting the history and culture of Oregon and the greater Pacific Northwest.

For the Research Library's valuable archival subject collections (called "Topical Collections"), the grant would support re-housing of 150 linear feet of selected materials in acid-free archival folders, boxes, and envelopes as appropriate to the specific materials. Currently the bulk of the Topical Collections are housed in non-archival folders, boxes, and envelopes, or, in the case of many fragile bound materials, lack protective housing entirely. These collections have already been arranged and described, however the physical processing was done at a time prior to the widespread use of of acid-free housing.
