Holy Trinity Orthodox Seminary Preservation Assesment of Library and Archives

FAIN: PG-50310-08

Holy Trinity Orthodox Seminary (Jordanville, NY 13361-2616)
Vladimir V. Tsurikov (Project Director: May 2007 to March 2009)

A preservation assessment of approximately 10,000 books and 450 linear feet of archives, including rare Russian Orthodox theological books published before the Russian Revolution, Russian émigré periodicals and newspapers, and materials on Byzantine history. The purchase of archival supplies recommended by a preservation consultant will be used to rehouse fragile materials.

The project will provide the first step in reliably preserving the cultural resources of Holy Trinity Seminary for future generations by conducting a thorough assessment of the current state of the physical items as well as the physical environment within which they are housed. As part of this assessment relatively inexpensive and easily implemented steps will be identified and pursued to safeguard materials at risk of rapid deterioration until a thorough long-term plan is in place and properly funded.
