Collections Assessment of the Edgar Allan Poe Museum Collections

A general preservation assessment and purchase of environmental monitoring equipment for the preservation of correspondence, books, artifacts, and other materials related to the life of American poet Edgar Allen Poe.

The Edgar Allan Poe Museum requests support to hire conservator Wendy Jessup to conduct a general assessment of the Poe Museum's collections currently on display and the exhibit areas themselves. This assessment will focus on conditions of the facilities which may negatively impact the environmental quality of the exhibit spaces and provide direction for development of a framework for strategic facilities improvements for climate management, fire protection and security that will result in improvements to the care, preservation and access of the museum's exhibited collections. Grant monies will also be used to acquire environmental monitoring equipment which will allow staff to track environmental conditions for at least one year before any upgrades or major changes are made to the existing facilities and exhibit spaces.
