Conservation Consultation of Image Collection

FAIN: PG-50325-08

University of Montana (Missoula, MT 59801-4494)
Donna E. McCrea (Project Director: May 2007 to June 2009)

Hiring a photographic preservation consultant to assess a collection of 50,000 historic images dating from 1860 to the 1980s and housed in the Maureen and Mike Mansfield Library at The University of Montana-Missoula. The collection focuses on people, places, and events in western Montana.

Grant support would allow the Maureen and Mike Mansfield Library at The University of Montana-Missoula to bring a well-qualified consultant to Missoula to perform an on-site assessment of the conservation needs of the library's historic image collections. The consultant would then provide a written report that would serve as the cornerstone for plans to improve storage conditions and perform (in-house or outsourced) conservation work for the still image collection housed within the Mansfield Library's Archives and Special Collections Department.
