Rehousing United States Naval Special Warfare Records

FAIN: PG-50372-08

Navy UDT-SEAL Museum (Fort Pierce, FL 34949-8520)
Hilda Ruth McSween (Project Director: May 2007 to September 2009)

Purchase of storage furniture and preservation supplies to rehouse artifacts, manuscripts, correspondence, maps, photographs, and other records documenting United States Naval Special Warfare operations since World War II.

The museum, library and archives located at the Navy UDT-SEAL Museum houses approximately 7,600 catalogued items, including historic objects, photographs, weaponry, military records and personal papers, multimedia and books. Unfortunately, the physical integrity of much of the museum's collection has deteriorated significantly over time owing to the use of inadequate and/or improper storage materials and preservation techniques. The purpose of this project is to stablize the museum's collection by purchasing appropriate archival storage equipment and supplies to rehouse most of the historic objects and weaponry, photographic images, archives and textiles.
