A conservation assessment of the collections of the Museo de Arte de Caguas, which holds paintings, sculptures, prints, and photographs from the 1930s to the present, many of which are by artists from Caguas and the surrounding Turabo Valley.

Through a six-month, $5,000 Preservation Assistance Grant for Smaller Institutions, the Museo de Arte de Caguas (Caguas Art Museum) will contract an experienced preservation consultant to perform a general assessment of its collection, infrastructure/physical envelope, exhibit areas, lighting, humidity and temperature conditions. The consultant will also define essential storage standards to identify a suitable location for these purposes. The assessment and the consultant's recommendations will lead to an action plan with priorities for implementation, with three basic levels of action: immediate/urgent remedial actions to prevent conservation, preservation risks that may endanger the collection; mid-range strategies to maximize exhibit space, and to articulate infrastructure improvements, equipment needs and other capital investments to be included in the applicant's five-year strategic plan; and safety safeguards for the Museum.
