Training and Development of Disaster Preparedness Plan

Online workshops and onsite training in disaster preparedness and response for museum staffl. Staffs of other museums, libraries, and historical organizations in Wyoming will be invited to participate. The collections of the Carbon County Museum include textiles, photographs, tolls and equipment, transportation artifacts, and ranching and mining objects that demonstrate the history and culture of southeastern Wyoming.

The Carbon County Museum (CCM) will use Preservation Assistance Grant funds to hire Terri Schindel, a conservation consultant and trainer, to assist our museum and other local museums, libraries and preservation organizations in providing disaster preparedness and response plans (DPRP), DPRP training with an emphasis on risk assessment, prevention, completing DPRP plans, and conducting a drill at the CCM. The primary goals are to provide training, assess risks, and develop a unified response and recovery plan for use by organizations in Carbon County, Wyoming, a sparsely populated rural area with ten museums, 6 libraries, and many historic structures. We will link to existing emergency response teams in our area, local fire, law enforcement, and medical emergency teams. This proposal demonstrates the use of technology through online training, human interaction through onsite drills, and the use of regional consultants to assist small, rural, and tribal museums to attain goals in disaster preparedness and planning.
