Preserving the Fred L. Savage Collection of Architectural Drawings and Blueprints

FAIN: PG-50420-08

Mount Desert Island Historical Society (Mount Desert, ME 04660-6602)
Charlotte Singleton (Project Director: May 2007 to December 2009)

Purchase of storage furniture and environmental monitoring equipment to preserve the drawings and blueprints of noted architect Fred L. Savage, who designed many summer homes and public buildings on Mount Desert Island from 1887 to 1926.

Mount Desert Island Historical Society requests support to implement Institute of Museum and Library Services conservation assessors' recommendations regarding preservation of the society's humanities materials. The assessors confirmed the need for adequate archival storage units for a large and significant collection of architectural records. They also identified the urgent need to install environmental monitoring equipment inside four buildings used for collections storage and exhibitions. This grant will enable us to purchase four five-drawer flat files and base; five dataloggers, a HOBO U-shuttle and a sling psychrometer to monitor temperature and humidity conditions; and a portable light meter.
