Katherine E. Stricker (Project Director: January 2009 to November 2009)

A general preservation assessment to address environmental conditions, disaster preparedness, and current storage conditions.

The Ursuline College Archives preserve the records and memorabilia of Ursuline College, a small catholic college located near Cleveland, Ohio. Ursuline College is the first chartered women's college in Ohio. The archives' holdings reflect Ursuline's role in women's education. The archives would like to use the Preservation Assistance Grant for Smaller Institutions to hire a consultant to perform a general preservation assessment. The assessment would include an evaluation of the condition of the collections, the environment of the space, as well as recommendations for solutions to environmental problems. A storage analysis would focus on how to best maximize the current space as well as recommendations for storage equipment purchases and proposals for additional or alternate locations. The consultant would also help address collection goals and needs, including setting priorities for description and access and evaluating the archives' disaster plan.
