FAIN: PG-50544-09

Victoria Cranner (Project Director: May 2008 to November 2010)

Developing, testing, and implementing a comprehensive and systematic disaster preparedness and response plan for the society's diverse object and image collections that would address human-made emergencies and geographic and climatic hazards.

The San Diego Historical Society (SDHS) requests a Preservation Assistance Grant to develop, test, and implement a disaster preparedness and response plan for the Society's diverse collections housed at the Museum of San Diego History. The comprehensive project will include disaster prevention and preparation activities, and will plan for possible response and recovery situations. The result will be a single, yet comprehensive disaster plan for the Museum's three categories of collections' objects, photographs, and archives. The San Diego Historical Society is the only organization in the county devoted to the history of San Diego and the surrounding area. Our collections and research library are used locally, nationally and internationally. A collections specific disaster plan will help the SDHS protect and preserve these collections for generations to come.
