Georgia Historical Society: Preservation Assessment

FAIN: PG-50608-09

Georgia Historical Society, Inc. (Savannah, GA 31401-4889)
Nora Lewis (Project Director: May 2008 to January 2010)

A preservation assessment of the society's archival collections, consisting of 15,000 linear feet of historical records with particular strengths in the Colonial era, the American Revolution, and the Civil War. These materials are used by nearly 5,000 scholars, students, teachers, and family historians annually and include a number of individual treasures, such as an original draft of the U.S. Constitution.

The Georgia Historical Society (GHS) seeks NEH support to contract with a qualified preservation consultant who will conduct a general preservation assessment of GHS collections and draft a long-range collections care and preservation plan focusing on the care, storage and preservation of the Society's archival collections. Grant activities will result in a written comprehensive long-range plan for collections care and preservation of GHS's archival collections.
