Environmental Monitoring for the Library Company's Collections

FAIN: PG-50624-09

Library Company of Philadelphia (Philadelphia, PA 19107-5679)
Jennifer W. Rosner (Project Director: May 2008 to November 2010)

The purchase of equipment with which to provide constant monitoring and quick response to temperature, humidity, and light levels in six floors of collections storage space and two galleries. The Library Company's holdings document every aspect of American history and culture through the end of the 19th century.

The Library Company is requesting a $4,570 grant to fund the upgrade of environmental monitoring equipment in our collections storage areas. Purchasing new dataloggers, a wireless receiver, and a light meter will allow us to monitor temperature, humidity, and light levels in the stacks and to make needed adjustments quickly. Ensuring a stable environment for our collections is an essential part of our institutional mission: to preserve our historically-significant collections for future generations.
