Basic Preservation Assessment of the Historical Collections Housed at Kirtland Public Library

FAIN: PG-50732-10

Kirtland Public Library (Kirtland, OH 44094-8500)
Jane Carle (Project Director: May 2009 to October 2011)

A general preservation assessment of the collection of books, newspapers, photographs, maps, and manuscripts that documents the history of this Ohio town from its settlement by immigrants from Massachusetts in the early 19th century up to the present.

The Kirtland Public Library will contract with Intermuseum Conservation Association for conservator Jamye Jamison to conduct a basic preservation assessment of the Library's historical collections of approximately 2,550 paper-based archival items. This collection is housed within the Kiwanis History Room and has grown largely due to patrons' donations. Proper preservation of the collection is overdue. This project will be the first step in safeguarding local items of historical significance.
