Archival Preservation Project

FAIN: PG-50773-10

Institute of American Indian and Alaska Native Culture (Santa Fe, NM 87508-1300)
Ryan Flahive (Project Director: May 2009 to October 2011)

Funding supports the purchase of archival supplies to preserve the institute's organizational records documenting Indian art education, tribal college management, and Native art and artists. Founded in 1962, the IAIA is the only multi-tribal center of higher education in the United States dedicated solely to the study of Native American arts and cultures.

This grant would support a large arrangement, description, and preservation project at the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) that was recommended by a preservation assessment. This Preservation Assistance grant will aid IAIA in purchasing preservation supplies to complete the rehousing and processing of the entire backlog of institutional papers, photographs, ephemera, oversize materials, audio-visual materials, and student art describing IAIA's history.
