FAIN: PG-50860-10

Historic Red Clay Valley, Inc. (Wilmington, DE 19808-6027)
John M. Iwasyk (Project Director: May 2009 to December 2011)

A general preservation assessment of the museum's collection of documents, books, newspapers, periodicals, photographs, digital media, maps, drawings, audiovisual materials, paintings, and artifacts documenting railroad history and operations in northern Delaware.

The Delaware Operating Railroad Museum is a division of Historic Red Clay Valley, Inc (HRCV) which also operates the 10 mile scenic Wilmington & Western Railroad. The NEH grant would support an overall preservation assessment of the collections of HRCV by a professional consultant. This assessment would provide "best practices" preservation recommendations into plans to build new archive and library rooms in a new office HRCV building. This project is of major preservation importance in that it will preserve documents and artifacts of Delawares only continuously operating 137-year-old branch railroad in Northern Delaware.
