Perry County Lutheran Historical Society Archival Development Project

FAIN: PG-50919-10

Perry County Lutheran Historical Society (Altenburg, MO 63732)
Carla Lee Jordan (Project Director: May 2009 to October 2011)

Funding supports the purchase of storage furniture and preservation supplies for the society's book and document collections. Sources include 19th-century photographs, sacramental records, personal papers of church pastors, and local government and business records chronicling the history of Saxon Lutheran colonies in eastern Missouri.

The Perry County Lutheran Historical Society will use the grant funds to further archival development of the collections pertaining to the 1839 immigration of hundreds of Saxon Lutheran immigrants to east Perry County, Missouri. The Missouri State Archives will mentor the administration of the project. The project will be directed by historic preservationist and site director, Carla L. Jordan. The budgeted items for the project include archival shelving, archival folders, boxes, microfilm storage, and reading room book storage. All of these resources will increase the access of these significant historic collections for visiting scholars, academic researchers, interns, and family researchers.
