Conservation Assessment of Greek Vases at the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum

Funding supports a conservation assessment by a specialist in ancient Greek ceramics of 29 Corinthian, Attic, and Southern Italian vases dating between the 6th and early 3rd centuries BCE in the collections of the university's Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum. The vases, assembled from potsherds, were displayed at the 1904 Louisiana Purchase Exhibition in St. Louis and now require an expert assessment before conservation treatment.

The Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum at Washington University in St. Louis is applying for funds to cover a detailed conservation assessment of a collection of twenty-nine historically significant ancient Greek vases. The vases have been part of the Museum's collection since 1904 and have not received conservation during this time. The assessment will result in a report for each vase, detailing a description of its current condition, opportunities for further analysis, recommendations for treatment, and estimates for that treatment. These assessments will then serve as the foundation for future fundraising efforts to cover treatment itself.
