FAIN: PG-50976-10
Appalachian Mountain Club (Boston, MA 02129-3740)
Rebecca Maxwell Fullerton (Project Director: May 2009 to July 2011)
Funding supports a conservation assessment of the club's photographic collection, which consists of 6,000 glass lantern slides, 5,000 prints, 2,000 negatives, and 3,000 35 mm color slides documenting world-wide environmental history from 1876 to the present. Storage furniture and supplies recommended by the consultant will also be purchased.
The AMC Library and Archives' Historic Photograph Preservation Survey will consist of a consultation by a trained photographs conservator from the Northeast Document Conservation Center of Andover, Mass. The consultant will generate a report offering an overall assessment of the collections' condition and recommendations for upgrades in records management and the storage environment. In addition, funds will be used to purchase photograph storage furniture and archival supplies. These activities will help in implementing strategies for the protection of the AMC's collection of photographs documenting 133 years of outdoor exploration, recreation and conservation.
